Our Math Whiz

Yesterday Riley brought home a math paper dealing with addition and subtraction. Across the top it read: Done Independently! Super!

She did a great job. When I complimented her on her work this is how the conversation went:

Me: Wow Riley, you are really good with math.

Riley: Thanks.

Me: That is great. I'm not so good at math.

Riley: That's okay. I can teach you how to do it. It's easy. Our teacher gives us manipulates to work with and it is so much better than counting.

A Good Sport

The girls have a new game called Pretty Pretty Princess. It is Natalie's favorite game. Tim was a great sport and participated in the event. The object of the game is to end up with your earrings, necklace, bracelet, ring and the crown before anyone else.

Safety First!

Tim couldn't find his safety glasses to work on the ceiling in the garage... so he borrowed my sun glasses.

Fiesta!

This past week was Fiesta and Battle of the Flowers... the girls had their own parade at their school. Natalie was absent that day due to a bout of pink eye, but I took her up for the parade and kept her away from other kids. As you can see we spent a long time on this float.

The girls wanted to make a butterfly. I thought that was a great idea... until Riley wanted to make her favorite butterfly, The Monarch Butterfly. I also fooled myself into thinking that sticking tissue paper onto glue would not be that involved for the girls. LIE!!!! The actual act was not that involved- it was the need for a long attention span that reigned supreme.

I made the girls antennas for them to wear.

Riley's friend Arianna dressed up as Hanna Montana.

Here are Madison and Reagan (Natalie's good friend) going as mermaids.

I love Kermit the Vaquero Frog celebrating Fiesta Float...

Cari converted her double stroller into a scene from under the sea.

And some made their wagons into pirate ship.

You Can't See Me!

Nature at Our House

We have had some new visitors to our house as Spring comes to Texas. Below you will see this month that was on a pillar in the front of our house. I have never seen camouflage like this before.

Later we had one of our chameleon friends hanging out on the Rooster sign in front our house. He is a little hard to see since he is blending in with the brick. But you can see his silhouette in the next photo.

Out of the box

Riley was given an assignment of placing an item in a box and describing it to her class. She decided to make a snail out of things we found in nature and on job sites here in our neighborhood. Here is what she made...

The snails face is made from a nail with a green plastic ring around it. The shell is her left over pudding cup covered with buttons.

The snail is resting on the stick we found on our walk yesterday.

Here is the snail with the box behind it. She had a great time with this assignment.

Hummingbird Watchers

We have 4 hummingbirds hanging out in our backyard. Yesterday the girls and Tim enjoyed Popsicles and looking for the birds coming to eat out of the feeder.

Kick'n Back...

Ahhh, there's nothing like laying back and watching the day go by.

Painters, Garage Done!, and Cowgirls...

As many of you know, Tim has been working hard on reorganizing our garage to make room for necessary storage. WELL...this weekend he finished. Below are pictures of his great accomplishment. He still has some tweaking to do...

This is the loft(pictured above) with all our stuff from the storage unit. We purged of course. Pictured below is Tim's little shop area he worked on.

We are still trying to purge some stuff on this side if you can't tell.

And he hung peg board to store all my wreaths. What a sweetie!

Natalie was so worn out by the day that even after I woke her up from her 2 1/2 hour nap, she curled up on the bottom stair and went back to sleep for another 20 minutes.

The Painters.

Okay, so I got some of the area painters to do some side work. FOR DIRT CHEAP!!! Not a one spoke English. I had to get the Spanish teacher at my school to call them for me. The extent of my conversations with them went as follows:
Me: Que dinero paint cielo blanco? (as you can see Spanish is not a language I speak or spell)
Painter: Ehh?
ME: I walk through the house pointing at the ceilings I want painted white.
Painter: Oh (Ricky Ricardo rambling Spanish) ya ya ya. No Problem.

Here is the living room all covered in plastic. We were banished to the outdoors all day.

Watching this just made me nervous. Tim stayed in the garage the whole time. I think he would have died to see them balancing over his TV.

This guy was up on the top of a very tall ladder cutting in.

This is how they cut in around the ceiling fan, 20 something feet in the air. That is a paint brush taped to a long pole.

And here you can see the guy doing the cutting in with their little gizmo.

Needless to say the rooms look great. They painted the ceiling in the living room, above the stairs, the upstairs hallway, and the playroom. And it was all including the paint.

THE COWGIRLS...

Riley has not been involved in any extra curricular activities all year. When we moved we did not find a dance studio that was convenient and Riley has been saying she wants to learn to ride horses, western pleasure. I rode English Hunter Jumper. Here she is at her first lesson. We drive all the way to Boerne (about 1 hour) and then out into the country. She has a 1 hour lesson that includes care of the horse and riding instruction. She rode "Co-cheece" (I am spelling phonetically) for her first lesson and Cruiser for her second lesson.

Here she is on Cruiser. Notice the stirrups are on the highest notch and her legs are still not long enough.

Natalie went with us and loved seeing all the horses.

She especially liked getting a turn to ride!

Riley's most proud moment of her lesson... walking the horse back by herself!

Natalie felt the need to get in on things and help out. She is fearless.

Here is Riley with Ms. Laurie going out for her first lesson.

Learning how to get on using a mounting block. BTW... I didn't get to use one of those when I learned at age 4. I had to step into someones hand.
In the saddle.
Riding the barrell race lines and learning how to walk.
