Re-enforcing My Previous Statement Regarding the Liberal Mindset

Today I ran into a colleague who happens to be a Liberal. When retelling the story of Liberal vs Liberal Arts, I took into consideration this persons strong liberal beliefs, so I changed the story in a way that would not offend this person but still share the humor of the words used and the misinterpretation of them. Here is the conversation that followed:

Me: Oh, you will find this entertaining. I recently had a former student ask me if I was Liberal since my degree was in Liberal Arts.

Colleague: Oh well, that is very interesting. It makes sense to me that if you would major in Liberal Arts you would be a Liberal.

Enough said. The Liberal's mindset does not change and yes, they really do think the way I described in my former blog.

And these are just a few of the random thoughts I hear daily from my students.

Liberal vs Liberal Arts

Today I had the most interesting email from a former student on a rather misinformed topic. Now the humor to be found in this is that this student is trying desperately like so many of my non-working, non-taxpaying students to be a liberal. So, why should I be shocked by the email I got today when it was thought out with a liberal's mindset (misunderstood, assuming, uninformed, and delusional). I know that one day he will see the light, but until then... I must continue to educate him, because he is a good kid and one day will be a leader in our world.

Here is what the email said:
"You have a BA in liberal arts, yet you are the most conservative Republican I know! IRONY! Or just bi-partisanship..."

Please note:

A degree in liberal arts: the academic course of instruction at a college intended to provide general knowledge and comprising the arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, as opposed to professional or technical subjects.

Liberal: one who believes in the broad political and philosophical mindset, favoring individual liberty, and opposing restrictions on liberty, whether they come from established religion, from government regulation, or from the existing class structure.^[1] Liberalism in the United States takes various forms, ranging from classical liberalism to social liberalism to neoliberalism.

As you can see these two terms using the word Liberal are no where near each other. I being the true to life college student looking for the easiest and fastest way out chose to major in Liberal Arts so that I could take any class of interest and still receive credit.

While in college studying liberal arts I ran into many liberals, some in a class called Ecology where one such liberal spouted on about Global Warming. I was willing to buy into the whole concept, except for a major flaw... did you know that there in no baseline study/measurements for Global Warming? They never measure in the same place...this is what the guy told me. Through all his documented research they never measured in the same place! And when I questioned this he got mad at me! How dare I question him and his findings...why did I not blindly accept what he said as gospel?

Well, I am a free thinker who believes in keeping my hard earned money, and not blindly giving my $ to indebted self-centered politicians who forgot who they were elected to serve, so that they my dole it out to special interest groups who keep a large portion for their greedy selves while enabling those caught in a devastating cycle of poor self-esteem and poverty to remain enslaved to the belief that Uncle Sam owes them an easy life without responsibility or accountability for their actions...so therefore I am not a LIBERAL.

A Day Out on the Lake

Today the girls and I went out on Lake Medina with our friends, Mark and Amy. The girls rode on a boat for the first time. Here they are when we first took off, notice Natalie hanging on for dear life.



Riley figured out how to float on her back.


Natalie was so tired she laid down and took a nap on the floor of the boat.

After Natalie got over her fear of swimming off the back of a boat, she ate up everything and just wanted to float.


Here is Nat with Mark and Amy's dog, Kaci, who was in the water more than out.


I tried out our "waterproof" camera and look it works!



Natalie told Kaci to go lay down because she wanted to "pose" for this picture.


I swam around to the front of the boat and took this picture of Madi, Riley, and Jocey.


And then of course everyone fell asleep on the way home....


Madi was sitting up asleep the whole ride back.

Every one fell asleep, except Riley. Who hates to sleep and has since the day she was born.

We stopped at the Red Cove Marina Cafe for a burger before heading home... here are a few pics so you can get a flavor for the place.
